How It Works: Set It and Forget It
We know you don’t have time for complicated setups. With Mileage Charges, you only have to set your terms once. From there, Sympathy Plan does all the heavy lifting, calculating the exact amount automatically on every single order.
Setting it up in your Settings takes less than a minute:

Turn on "Enable Mileage Charges."

Set your "Miles included at no charge" - this is the base distance you are happy to cover for free.

Set your "Rate per additional mile."
Note: To turn this feature on, just make sure you have a complete funeral home address saved in your settings and a rate set above $0.
What Families See: Clear, Transparent Checkout
We designed this feature with the family experience in mind. There are no sudden surprises or hidden fees at the end of the process. Instead, families are guided through a transparent, simple flow:
- Location Selection: During checkout, families are asked, “Where is your loved one located?” As they - type, they can easily choose the correct address from a smart suggestion list.
- Instant Calculation: Sympathy Plan instantly measures the driving distance from your funeral home.
- Real-Time Updates: The mileage charge appears clearly in their running total alongside the service fee. They will see the exact rate and the billable miles laid out clearly.
- Seamless Documentation: Once the order is placed, the charge automatically flows through to the order details, the printed summary, and the confirmation email.

We want you to adopt new features at your own pace. Mileage Charges are turned off by default. Absolutely nothing will change about your current checkout process until you decide to head into your settings and turn them on.
